Welcome to Angora Lakes Resort

Set along Angora Ridge Road in South Lake Tahoe, Angora Lakes Resort offers a tranquil summer escape with nine rustic cabins that feature kitchens. The property caters to guests seeking a peaceful retreat close to nature, providing essentials like Wi-Fi and free parking, though it does not have a pool, restaurant, or fitness facilities. The resort is centered around a scenic mountain lake, popular for kayaking and swimming. Kayak rentals are available on location, and visitors often enjoy balancing on floating pine logs or relaxing on the beach, as noted by multiple guests. The half-mile hike from the parking area to the cabins and lake adds to the natural setting but may require some preparation, especially for those not acclimated to the altitude.

Nearby attractions include Fallen Leaf Lake, known for its boating, fishing, and camping opportunities, and Tallac Historic Site, which offers seasonal tours and exhibits. South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena provides indoor recreation, making the area suitable for varied interests. Guests should be prepared for limited parking and should plan their arrival accordingly, especially during busy summer weekends.

With a strong rating of 4.8 based on 225 reviews, Angora Lakes Resort appeals to visitors looking for a quiet, nature-focused getaway rather than urban conveniences. The rustic cabins and lakeside setting attract those who prioritize outdoor recreation and scenic views. Practical aspects, such as the absence of a restaurant on site and the need to hike to the resort from parking, are consistently noted, helping guests set realistic expectations.

There are a number of cliffs- a little difficult to access- one about 30 feet and one very high about 60 feet, which they recommend with a wink in the gift shop that you don't jump off of. There however is an element of danger to be warned of. There are a few large pine logs floating in the lake which are fun to balance on and play with, boats etc. for rent and a nice beach for sunning and bathing.

Exquisite mountain resort with glorious views of the lake. My cousin Joe come up here every year. Came here in late December on a snow day and loved seeing the beautiful snow as it fell from the sky. Good skiing in this town as well I skied down to the lake after a powder day.

Wonderful time. A real treat to stay in cabin 52. Do yourself a favor and get on the waitlist for a cabin and come for the day. Worth the .5 mile hike with great lemonade, boat rentals and swimming.

My favorite hike and lake in the Tahoe Basin. Cabins are lottery. But day hike in and out. Gets very busy in summer weekends and parking lots fill up. You can buy sandwiches, delicious lemonade, and ice cream novelties at the little store. Rent row boats, SUPs, and other flotilla.

I have not stayed at the resort, but visit Upper Angora Lake yearly. Parking (currently $8)can be a challenge, so you must arrive early. Expect a hike, and if you are not acclimated to the altitude, it can be challenging. The hike itself is less than a mile from the parking lot, and the trail is more of a fire road. Hike past the first lake, these are privately owned cabins. The upper lake is run by a family. They have boats to rent, snacks and lemonade to purchase. You can enjoy a day on the beach, or hike a bit more and do a bit of rock/cliff jumping (at your own risk, of course). The family that runs it is very friendly. It is a day trip well worth the taking.

Our favorite place in Tahoe. A beautiful mountain lake. Very little parking. And then you have to hike about 1/2 mile to get to the upper lake which has got the small snack shop and beach stuff. Beautiful views and easy to paddle board and kayak since the waters are mostly calm. There are spots for cliff jumping if you want to do it illegally.

Don’t share your favorite swim holes. Except, this place is THE BEST. It’s a MUST VISIT if you’re in SLT. Even the road up there is a special event. BUT, parking is severely restricted, and you have to pay $10 for that privilege. so go early. There’s food and drink at the Upper Lake.
